Over the years we have repaired many different types of cane involving both hand tied and pressed in cane as well as some rush weaving and rattan/bamboo repair. We often get asked what the difference between the two types of cane are. Pressed-in cane uses a pre-woven sheet of cane, which is then pressed into a groove around the chair frame and secured with a spline or glue. Hand-tied cane, on the other hand, involves weaving individual strands of cane through holes in the frame, creating a seat that is woven in place.
Color matching for cane replacements is also a specialty - we pride ourselves on the chairs looking as good as new.
These chairs were damaged by the owner's 17 year old grandson who knealt on them (it's amazing how much furniture is damaged by visiting family!). The pressed in cane was replaced, the new spline carefully mitred in, and the cane was restained. Looked as good as new!

This cane chair was one of a set and was torn after being used by the family for many years. The dining table and chairs were being passed on to the owner's grandson, who was about to start LSU Veterinary College and so the owner needed the damaged cane replaced. We also cleaned the chair and replaced some missing screws to stabilize it.

These vintage garden chairs came to us needing some serious TLC. The binding was coming undone and was even missing in places and the finish was peeling. We repaired the chair frames, rebinded the binding and then repainted in French Quarter Green. They looked beautiful!

This family rocker came to us needing some TLC after years of being exposed to the elements. A panicked husband rang us after damaging these cane chairs. We replaced the broken pressed in cane, stabilized some wonky joints, cleaned the chairs, and refreshed the finish. The disgraced husband was soon out of the 'dog house' when his wife saw the finished result!
